8 inspirational places visited and described by Taras Shevchenko

Cozy Moryntsi, atmospheric Kachanivka and hilly Kano not only influenced the work of the poet, but also played an important role in his life.

March 9, 2018 marks 204 years since the birth of the brilliant Ukrainian writer – Taras Shevchenko – a man who all his life in his works, imbued with the destiny of Ukraine and its destitute people. To this date TSN.Tourism has prepared the interesting places that are mentioned in the works of poet or closely associated with his life.

In the village of morintsy, Zvenigorod district, Cherkasy region on March 9, 1814, was born Taras Shevchenko. It is part of a comprehensive reserve «homeland of Taras Shevchenko». Here is the house-Museum, similar to that in which the poet was born. Nearby there is a wooden chapel of the blessed virgin Mary and the monument to the mother of the writer. The village of Shevchenkovo is located on the Dnieper upland near Moryntsi. It is here while still a child he moved with his parents Taras Shevchenko. Now the settlement is part of the National reserve «Motherland of Taras Shevchenko».

In the village of Shevchenkove is the Literary-memorial Museum of poet and reconstructed at its pattern the father’s old hut. Also here a statue of «13-year-old Taras with the road knot».

Now the small village of Kachanivka in Chernihiv Taras Shevchenko visited after the redemption from serfdom and study at the St. Petersburg Academy of arts. Here in 1843 he was staying in a luxury Kachaniv the estate of famous philanthropist and landowner Vasyl Tarnovsky. It happened during the first trip to Ukraine.

The writer very much in the estate, which is by the way perfectly preserved until now. Here he would visit with them again and even fall in love with Hope Tarnowska, daughter of Basil Tarnovsky. This passion he will carry through almost all my life, but never marries her.

Already in 1859, the writer will come one last time to see Hope Tarnowsky, but at that time there will be in the estate. It was then that he wrote a poem devoted to him the lines:

Taras Shevchenko repeatedly visited Kiev. Here he became acquainted with numerous cultural figures of Ukraine, drew pictures and wrote poems. Now the capital is the national Museum of Taras Shevchenko. Here are stored paintings and manuscripts of the poet. The building has interesting architecture, in addition, it restored. The Museum houses the death mask of Taras Shevchenko.

In addition, in Kiev there is a branch of the Museum «Hut on Priorke», which is located in Vyshgorod, 5. In this hut lived Taras Shevchenko, when he visited the city for the last time in 1859. About her, the poet would later write:

Cold Yar

Urochishche kholodnyy Yar – a symbol of freedom and rebellious spirit of the Ukrainians. In the same vein mentions the area and Taras Shevchenko in his poem. Is Cold Yar on the right Bank of the Dnieper river in the Cherkassy region. Berezova Rudka

In the poem, the poet speaks on behalf of a girl who survived the fire.

In Kaniv, Chernecha mountain, Taras Shevchenko was buried. The monument towers over the cliffs and overlooks the Dnieper river. Nearby is a huge Museum and one of the installations of the hut Shevchenko’s times. At the foot of the hills include a stove with the last line of the poem «Dream»:

Give the same God, if ya know,
Hoch on starst, the way
In these mountains kradenih
Little hat,
